3D Workshop - Recyclism

2d to 3d to3d print to the real thing

Hi all
here is something i been working on in last month
its a desk for Bank of Ireland.

the turn around from design to being built is about 1 month

so this design was made up by Aiden Grennelle one of the top designers in ImageNow

Then it was modeled up by me and shown as a basic low res render

Next was more realistic renders

as well as a 3d print which help get the shape across

after everyone was happy with it went off to MJ Flood to be made

it was made in corian

its about 3x1x1 meters

and here it is in its place at one of Dublin busiest street, Grafton street 

the picture do not give it justice its really is quite amazing to see it in real.

hope this was interesting to someone

the talks is part of a program called fuse witch is part of Design week here in Dublin.

Time Lapse

 

Here is my set up for doing time lapses, nothing special using a canon 400D with a Giga T pro remote that has a time lapse setting.

Its normally set to 10-15 seconds depending on the shape of the print 15 seconds is nice fore tall prints where 5-10 is better for smaller flatter prints.

one other bit of equipment is power i have a old power supply for the 400D which really helps on 7 hours and more prints

why?

3D printing is cool

Plug = :(

Was just about to print the 2nd print for the doo on Friday and had a plug build up really didn't feel like taking the hot end apart. So I made a very pointy point on the filliment and hope for the best. This didn't work so I pulled it out and to my surprise it pulled out the plug. The plug stuck to the new filliment so happy days here's the plug and the pointy bit.

Visiting ITT

So went over to ITT and met a really nice chap by the name of Paul, he showed me around the place there where some really cool machines for testing stresses on materials and other things that i have no idea about,

and the main thing I went over to see the SLS 

This is the Sinterstation 2500 plus

This thing is huge Paul also showed me what it can do it can print using metal or nylon, i wish i took more pictures but this was the only one i had

it quite impressive and the quality of the prints are very good. you can see at the back on the right the nylon prop.
